The purpose of a thermostat is to let the car get up to operating temperature and then open up to not let it get any hotter. It is the optimal temperature for the car. If you run without a thermostat it would not let the car get up to operating temperature for a long while.

Take the cover off the engine, and check the oil cooler. Sits right in the middle of the engine. Mine was starting to leak, and liquid was living in the valley of the engine. This is how I found out mine was leaking: The reason they did this is they wanted the oil to be hotter and the exhaust gas temps to be lower. By having lower exhaust gas temps they were able to run 20% exhaust gas in the cylinder on the compression stroke rather than the normal 10%. Try leaving the AC on it will turn the engine fan on Low and keep coolant temps down. When I started actually paying close attention to it the needle was staying at the third little hash mark on the gauge (so technical right).yeah, the middle is a bit high for the 3.6L especially if you are driving.
